I see!! That's very helpful.
So it's more of a Gone with the wind kind of thing
rather than a My Fair Lady one!!
More a Perfume
then an An American Haunting
and still the dresses used in the video made for the books are far more simple.

Yeah, it's more of a Gone with the Wind than a My Fair Lady. I don't think the maker of that video’s was aiming to be historically accurate to the time period-whoever made that video just probably chose old fashioned looking dresses, but not necessarily one's right for that exact time period. If you want to know more about historical fashion, try, www.fashion-era.com/index.htm. It's really helpful. Also, typing 'Gibson Girl' into google could be helpful. The Gibson Girl was the feminine ideal during that time period.

btw, how do you post the actual pic instead of the link??
You place the url inside this [/img] Oh and the dress you posted is nice, I like it and that's how I imagined their dresses to be. Not too modern but not way to big and flashy either!!

A lot of movies are really good at giving a good idea of the fashions of the time. Movies based on Jane Austin novels are a little too early to help you with the Gemma Doyle series, taking place in the early nineteenth century rather than the late. Movies like Somewhere In Time, one of the versions of the Secret Garden, Phantom of the Opera, Little Women, and the Little Princess (as much as I love Shirley Temple, I think the '90's version of this movie is SOO much better). I know there are so many that are better examples, but I feel like I'm drawing a horrible blank right now...I'll post again if I remember =/ Juniper has the right idea!
