We all know and love the story of Elaine of Ascolat, the young girl who was doomed to fall in love with Arthur's knight Lancelot only to be turned away, and who may not be a great historical figure, but is surely a key presence in literature. I was wondering if anyone knew of any works of literature besides the Lady of Shalott about Elaine that they recommend.
I actually just finished this one YA book that was published just last year about Elaine called Song of the Sparrow by Lisa Ann Sandell which I absolutely loved because it portrayed Elaine as a strong character rather than a victim, and she does her part to save the lives of many men. It even includes some Tristan and Isolde (which was just fine with me, as I don't mind picturing James Franco any day lol)

Ever since I heard about that book a few months ago, I've wanted to read it! But every time I go to B&N or BAM, I can never find it.

So I finally read this book a few weeks ago. I absolutely loved it! I'm really glad she made Elaine into a strong character instead of a very weak girl. My only complaint about the book was the ending--it felt too abrupt. But otherwise, it was great!

I'm glad you did!! I know what you mean, though. I sort of felt like the action really was starting to pick up, and then not much later it ended. Still, I love the book!
